Culinary Buzzwords: An Introduction

As the world of artisanal food and drinks become more accessible to the mainstream market, new terms and taglines seem to be popping up everywhere you look. But what do they actually mean? We take a quick dive into some of VDG’s most commonly used words that can sometimes trip consumers up.

Maybe the most commonly used buzzword for small businesses, the term artisanal is meant to inject an immediate assurance of quality. Why? Because, based on the root of the word, your product is made by an artist. We’re not talking about the painter or the sculptor, but someone who is passionate and skilled.

Our entire staff team, from our operations and marketing to our production and casing, is filled with passion for this business, and that means that we want you to feel an appreciation for what we’re making just like we do. Hours, days, months are spent making sure that we deliver nothing but our finest work.

Often reserved for the world of whiskey and spirits, small batch refers to the reducing the quantity of production in order to maintain a premium uniformed flavor and consistency. When we use it to describe our cured meats product it means that each one of our flavors are done in small sessions so that we can quality check and make sure that you are only getting the very best of the best.

As demand and requests ramp up, it’s difficult to maintain hold of the small-batch distinction; at one point, aren’t you going to need to just increase production to keep up with the consumers? We say no! We will continue to perform our current production methods so that we know that you will taste consistency. We want you to taste the same truffle in our Tartufo, the same fennel in our Finocchiona, the same brightness in our Lemon & Oregano, no matter how much you order.

This one might seem self-explanatory; it’s made using your own two hands, right? But when it comes to the culinary industry it goes a few steps further. Handmade also includes self-made recipes that have been created in house and then tried and tested by our staff team (and friends and family!).
